Travel woes continue for Spirit Airline passengers around the country and in Baltimore as the airline goes through with a new round of cancelations that have been taking place since Sunday. There has been an ebb and flow of anger and frustration at the Spirit Airlines ticket counter at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Passengers told 11 News that they show up, check in, get to the gate only to find out that their flight has been canceled and then re-booking that flight has been a huge challenge.”And while we were waiting in line, they just randomly told us that our flight was canceled,” said Davine Thomas, who is trying to get to Jamaica.Thomas got to BWI-Marshall at 5 a.m. Tuesday to get a flight to Jamaica. To his and a lot of other passenger’s surprise, not only was his flight canceled but he said the airline had no communication after that.”There’s been a lot of people that are trying to reschedule flights or see if Spirit can give them another flight on another airline and they were just disregarding all of that,” he said.Others like James Downey explained to 11 News they’ve had to make multiple trips to the airport after flights were canceled Sunday.”This is my third day here with Spirit and I’ve yet to be able to speak to anyone. I have a flight that was canceled on Sunday at 5 p.m. flight that was canceled and I’ve yet to be able to speak to anybody,” Downey said.Problems for Spirit Airlines started on Sunday, according to NBC News. Since then, almost 800 flights have been canceled.Through a statement, Spirit said the delays were because of “operational challenges,” but no elaboration: “We’re working around the clock to get back on track in the wake of some travel disruptions over the weekend due to a series of operational challenges. We understand how frustrating it is for our guests when plans change unexpectedly, and we’re working to find solutions.”Taneha Hopkins is considered one of the lucky ones, managing to get a flight out of Florida back home to Baltimore. However, she was able to do this on another airline and is now just trying to get her bags.”I was in Florida headed back to Baltimore, home flight canceled, in line for about 10 hours still didn’t reach anybody, anything. I had to fly back on Southwest, so I had to spend more money,” Hopkins said. And despite the statement from Spirit Airlines, there is no timeline still in place to show when operations will be back to normal.
